Senior Python Engineer
Evonetix is a start-up company which is set to revolutionize de novo gene synthesis as needed to facilitate the fast-growing and incredibly exciting field of synthetic biology. Our technology is based upon a novel silicon array, manufactured with semiconductor microfabrication techniques and capable of independent control of many thousands of miniaturized reaction sites, allowing massive parallelism of the DNA synthesis process and on-chip DNA assembly with integrated error removal.
Our community is a closely-knit multidisciplinary team of biologists, physicists, synthetic and surface chemists, and mechanical, electronic and software engineers.
We have just closed our $30M Series B funding round and recently moved to a state-of-the-art facility in central Cambridge, allowing us to undertake significant recruitment to enable the development of our commercial DNA synthesiser.
Our novel approach to DNA synthesis and assembly is set to revolutionise what is possible with a desktop DNA synthesiser. One of the key components to this system will be the cloud application for designing and managing DNA sequences for synthesis on our instrument, as well as applications and systems that will support the commercial, sales and support teams, as well as internal development of our instrument.
You will work within the software engineering team to plan and deliver several greenfield applications and systems to support the business objectives, with the opportunity to work on bioinformatics tools, ecommerce systems and business intelligence applications.
Responsibilities for software engineers within the team include gathering user requirements, defining system functionality, and writing code in various languages to add value in the form of user serving software. This role differs by having a particular focus on strategizing, enabling, and ensuring the continuous delivery of the team’s value to its end users. We promote that our produce (be that software, middleware, configurations, infrastructure, or otherwise) is only valuable when it has both reached and proven operational in the production environment.
To this end, we are looking for candidates who can demonstrate they are more than just software programmers. The successful candidate will demonstrate an understanding of not only software design and implementation, but also production operation – mentoring and assisting the wider team in seeing that the job “is done” only when it finally retires from production.
This is a unique opportunity to join early in the product lifecycle to help shape the direction of our cloud platform and development practises, and to work on the development of a unique third-generation gene synthesis platform.
Experience with Python is preferred but we are open to software engineers with experience in other server-side languages such as PHP, NodeJS, Java etc.
This role offers hybrid remote/onsite working.
